Monday Jul 19, 2021
Monday Jul 19, 2021
Alice Oseman's book is a book for teens stuck between the world of high school and post-secondary education or work. It deals with all the issues confronting that age today through the lens of the technology. that is so much a part of their lives. It is an excellent book to recommend to teen readers exploring issues of identity of all kinds and definitely has a place not the shelf of any library. It begs for discussions with teens but only if they are open to it. It sheds light on the social and emotional and sexual ennui of adolescence.

Ramona the Pest is the second in a series of books written by Beverly Cleary. The series as a whole could be considered dated because this book was written in 1968. BUT, there is much that a teacher can do to help her students learn about the past and have fun at the same time. Ramona is beginning Kindergarten and her older sister Beezus is already in Grade 3, Listen to the trials and tribulations of a little girl starting school and trying to be just like her big sister. Ramona is a very active child, to be sure, but the book represents a moment in time that would enable us to talk with our students about how different life and school is today from 40 years ago.
